BLACKSBURG - The Hokies picked up their fourth victory of the season with a 5-2 win over Appalachian State on Saturday afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
The day started strong, as Charlotte Cartledge and Özlem Uslu won five straight games after going down 1-0 to set themselves up for a 6-2 win in doubles. Semra Aksu and Erika Cheng did similar, winning three straight points to eventually win 6-4 and clinch the doubles point for the Hokies. In a back-and-forth battle, Katie Andreini and Dariya Radulova wrapped up the doubles sweep with a 6-4 win.
Cartledge kept us moving as she won 6-1, 6-0 on Court 6 over Peri Tippins, picking up her second singles win of the season. Aksu pulled off a first-set win after going down 3-0 early and continued to win the second set 6-3 for a sweep over Riley Collins. Cheng clinched the match for the Hokies with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win over Brooke Gruber.
Laima Frosch's impressive freshman campaign continued as she picked up her fourth win as a Hokie, defeating Naledi Manyube 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 with a 10-3 win in the ten-point tiebreak.
Andreini dropped a close match to Savannah Dada-Mascoll, falling 10-4 in the third-set ten-point tiebreak. Uslu returned to the singles lineup this afternoon but also fell short in the third-set ten-point tiebreak, 10-8 to Maggie Pate.
