CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – In the first competition of 2024, the Virginia Tech men's and women's swim teams picked up victories over visiting Queen University at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center. The women's squad won 162-97, while the men had a margin of 170-90.
Tech Women
In the 1000 freestyle, Chase Travis won easily with a time of 9:46:67, with teammate Kate Anderson finishing second.
Atkinson would win the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48:90, just ahead of teammates Fanni Gyurinovics and Sydney Starnes.
Travis would also go on to win the 500 free, as the Hokies swept the podium positions with Emma Atkinson and Sydney Starnes placing second and third respectively.
Tech Men
Three tech teams finished ahead of Queens in the medley relay with the team of Youssef Ramadan, Carles Coll Marti, Mario Molla Yanes and Brendan Whitfield taking first place.
Luis Dominguez took first place in the 200 freestyle, finishing ahead of teammates Brendan Whitfield and Nico Garcia. Dominguez touched with a time of 1:35:64.
In the 100 breaststroke, Ethan Maloney touched first and he was followed by AJ Pouch.
Tech swept the podium in the 200 breaststroke, with Coll Marti, Pouch and Joseph Hong. Coll Marti turned in a time of 1:53:41.
