Hokie women break a school record in the 800 free relay

ACC Championships Day 1 Results

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Hokies kicked off the 2023 ACC Championships with a school record, a bronze medal, an NCAA A-cut time and two top 10 times in Tech history.

HIGHLIGHTS

Women

Emma Atkinson, Carmen Weiler Sastre, Sarah Shackelford and Emily Claesson finished off finals strong with a school record in the 800 free relay with a time of 7:00.97, taking fourth place. The Hokie women topped their record-breaking time of 7:01.31, swam during day one of ACC's last year.

Men

Noah Zawadzki started off the day with a qualifying score of 307.95 in the men's 1-meter diving event during prelims. Later in the finals, Zawadzki placed sixth with a score of 345.15. 

Starting off finals, Forest Webb, Cobi Lopez Miro, Youssef Ramadan and Carles Coll Marti placed sixth in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:24.36. This time is sixth in Hokie history. 

The relay team of Luis Dominguez, Carles Coll Marti, Mario Molla Yanes and Nico Garcia Saiz won bronze in the men's 800 free relay with a time of 6:14.86. This time is currently fourth in the Virginia Tech top 10 times in history and is an NCAA A-cut time.

4th – Emma Atkinson, Carmen Weiler Sastre, Sarah Shackelford & Emily Claesson – 7:00.97

Men

UP NEXT

The Hokies will compete in the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free and the women's 1-meter diving event tomorrow with prelims beginning at 9:30 a.m. and finals beginning at 5:30 p.m.
