Kitley has double-double in Virginia Tech's 94-55 win over High Point

Postgame Notes Pledge Per Three

BLACKSBURG, VA --Elizabeth Kitley notched a double-double with 27 points and 11 rebounds to help the Virginia Tech women's basketball team knock off the High Point Panthers 94-55 at home Monday.

The Hokies (1-0) had four players score in double figures, led by Kitley. Matilda Ekh tacked on 15 points and Cayla King chipped in as well with 14 points and two blocks. Georgia Amoore scored 14 to round out the group.

Virginia Tech shared the ball well in Monday's game, racking up 17 assists on 35 made field goals. Georgia Amoore's nine assists led the Hokies.

Virginia Tech did a great job disrupting High Point shots in the contest, coming away with 10 blocks. Carleigh Wenzel led the way individually for the Hokies with four rejections.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 16-6 advantage, Virginia Tech went on a 10-0 run with 5:13 left in the first quarter to increase its lead to 26-6. The Hokies then added three points to that lead by the end of the period and entered the quarter break with a 38-15 advantage.

Virginia Tech kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 6-0 run starting at the 3:46 mark in the second period, highlighted by a three from King, to increase its lead to 50-24. They kept that lead for the remainder of the period and enjoyed a 56-30 advantage heading into halftime. Virginia Tech was strong from deep in the period, knocking down three three-point shots to account for nine of its 18 points.

Elizabeth Kitley's basket was the punctuation on a 7-0 run coming out of the halftime break, expanding Virginia Tech's lead further to 63-32 with 6:39 to go in the third. The Hokies held onto that lead for the rest of the frame and entered the fourth quarter with a 76-45 edge. Virginia Tech knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 20 total points.

Virginia Tech kept widening that lead, expanding it to 82-47 before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by King's three, to grow the lead to 88-47 with 3:35 to go in the contest. The Panthers narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Hokies still cruised the rest of the way for the 94-55 win. Virginia Tech got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring 11 of its 18 total points.
