How It Happened

After falling behind 10-8, Virginia Tech went on a 5-0 run with 3:56 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Carleigh Wenzel, to take a 13-10 lead. The Hokies then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 17-16 advantage. Virginia Tech built that first quarter lead to 27-20 before going on a 7-0 run starting at the 5:08 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Carys Baker, to increase its lead to 34-20. The Hokies kept that lead for the remainder of the period and enjoyed a 39-25 advantage heading into halftime. Virginia Tech forced four UNC Greensboro turnovers in the period and turned them into seven points.

After intermission, Virginia Tech added to its advantage and owned a 56-41 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Hokies started tacking on points in the fourth almost immediately, going on a 7-0 run to grow the lead to 63-41 with 8:01 to go in the contest.
