BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech football's John Love will wear the No. 25 jersey during the road matchup versus No. 15 Louisville.

Saturday will be Love's first time wearing the iconic jersey. The redshirt freshman is the second kicker this season to continue the legacy of donning No. 25. He joins kicker Kyle Lowe and punter Peter Moore as the only kicking specialists nominated for the honor.

"It's really nice to be selected by the staff to wear No. 25 this week," Love said. "There's a great tradition of special teams here. A lot of great players before me have worn it. I really couldn't do it without the guys on the field goal team."

The Spartanburg, South Carolina native is having a strong 2023 campaign, connecting on 15 of 17 field goals. In the Thursday night win against Syracuse, Love made all five field goal attempts, converting field goals from 43, 32, 39, 24 and 31 yards. His performance resulted in him being named a Lou Groza Award Star of the Week by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission.

Tech retired Frank Beamer's No. 25 jersey in 2002, and since the start of the 2016 season, the Hokies have been paying homage to Tech's legacy of excellence on special teams by selecting a different special teams athlete each week to wear the honorary Beamer 25 jersey. For more information on who has worn it in the past.
