Hokies compete at ACC Championships in Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ­– The Virginia Tech men's and women's cross country teams competed at the 2023 ACC Cross Country Championships on Friday, Oct. 27 at the Ambrose Urbanic Park. 

The men's 8k started off the conference championships with Declan Rymer leading the way for the Hokies. Rymer scored 58th with a time of 24:25.2, followed closely behind by Arnav Tikhe scoring 59th clocking in at 24:27.8.

Sam Hubert crossed the finish line third for Virginia Tech scoring 69th with a personal-best time of 24:31.2. Nick Plant and Ben Nagel rounded out the team's score placing 65th (24:34.3) and 66th (24:34.7), respectively. 

The men's team finished 11th scoring a team total of 312 points, falling three spots from their eighth place finish (251) in 2022. North Carolina took home the championship title scoring 49 points, Syracuse placed second with 65 points. 

In the women's 6k, senior Lindsey Butler ran a steady race maintaining her position throughout the first 5000 meters. Butler moved up three spots in final leg of the race scoring 31st with a time of 20:44.8. 

Hannah Ballowe crossed the line second for the Hokies scoring 51st stopping the clock at 21:11.4. Mary Kate McGranahan scored 55th (21:14.1), followed by Ava Hassebrock scoring 62nd (21:26.2) and Lila Waters scoring 67th (21:30.2). NC State took home the team title scoring 37 points, Tech finished 10th with 267 points. 

With the Cavaliers finishing ahead of the Hokies at the ACC Championships, Virginia receives two points in the Commonwealth Clash, presented by Smithfield. The score for the Commonwealth Clash currently is 4-0 in favor of Virginia. For more information, visit hokiesports.com/clash
