Virginia Tech baseball to hold open tryout on Aug. 29

BLACKSBURG – Building towards the 2024 season, the Virginia Tech baseball team announced on Friday that the program will be conducting a walk-on tryout on Tuesday, Aug. 29, at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park, beginning at 4:45 p.m.

Any and all Tech students who are interested in competing for a 2024 roster spot must attend and must first be medically cleared to participate by Kyle Staggers, director of sports medicine for baseball. To be medically cleared, all participants must complete and/or submit the following mandatory information to Staggers during a pre-tryout meeting at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park on Tuesday, Aug. 22 at 5:15 p.m.:

Students should be prepared to review their cardiac/prior medical history with Staggers at the Aug. 22 meeting. Questions regarding medical clearance may be addressed to Staggers via email at kyleas8@vt.edu.

Participants who have been cleared to compete should expect a full baseball workout and should bring all necessary equipment – including, but not limited to, cleats, glove, bat and helmet – and should be dressed in baseball pants and a hat. Questions regarding the walk-on tryout may be directed to Cam Davis, director of baseball operations, via email (camd25@vt.edu).

Virginia Tech enters the 2024 season riding back-to-back 30-win campaigns; Tech's combined .670 winning percentage during the 2022 and 2023 seasons marks its best two-year performance during its ACC tenure. In 2022, the Hokies championed the ACC Coastal Division for the first time, finished with the best regular season record in the ACC and hosted both NCAA Regional and Super Regional action in Blacksburg.
