Hokies face No. 20 Wake Forest in ACC Championships

BLACKSBURG – 11-seed Virginia Tech (9-15, 3-9) heads to Cary, N.C., for the ACC Men's Tennis Championship taking on six-seeded Wake Forest at 6 p.m.

Tech heads into the 2023 ACC Championship's with a good bit of momentum after dominating the Clemson Tigers on Senior Day, 4-1. The Hokies cruised in doubles with a pair of 6-2 victories from the pairings of Matt Harper/Frank Thompson, and Alvaro Saez-Royuela Ariza/Scott Sculley

It was the bottom three courts that lead Tech to victory with Alberto Orso and Frank Thompson drubbing their Clemson challengers on courts five and six to set up the clincher on court four from Hugo Maia. The Hokies will need to replicate their strong performances in both doubles and singles against a formidable Wake Forest squad that swept Tech just a few weeks prior.

Wake Forest enters Thursday's match with a 23-10 overall record, including a 7-5 mark in ACC play. Of note, over their last three matches of the regular season, the Demon Deacons out-scored their opponents 15-5.

The Demon Deacons singles lineup contains two ranked players led by senior Melios Efstathiou as the Limassol, Cyprus native owns an 18-4 dual singles record and is currently ranked the fifth-best singles player nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

In its final regular-season match of the 2023 campaign, Wake Forest defeated ACC foe Boston College, 6-1, Sunday afternoon at the Weymouth Club in Weymouth, Mass.

Tech looks to snap a nine-match losing streak to the 'Deacs dating back to 2015.
