ABOUT THE HOKIES…
Tech started its season strong on Saturday with a 14-8 win over VCU. The Hokies leveraged two 4-0 runs at different points to separate themselves from the pesky Rams side. Paige Tyson and Hannah Mardiney led the way for Tech in scoring, both netting three goals. Whitney Liebler recorded three assists in the game, as well.

The Hokies received important contributions from several true freshmen in their first game. Sarah Greshman took all of Tech's draws, while Jocelyn Torres protected the cage. Ella Rishko also started for Virginia Tech and scored twice.

ABOUT THE DUKES…
JMU dropped its first game of the season on Saturday to No. 1 North Carolina, 14-9. Despite the result, the Dukes recorded more shots and draw controls than their top-ranked foes.

Isabella Peterson led the charge for JMU, recording five goals and an assist in the contest. Last year, Peterson earned All-America honors from the IWLCA and IL Women. along with being named the CAA Player of the Year.

HERE'S TO 200 MORE
The Hokies' win on Saturday at VCU marked the program's 200th win. It was a landmark moment for the program, which started play in 1995. The Hokies have competed in the ACC, NCAA women's lacrosse's most competitive conference, since 2005.

LET'S BUILD ON THIS
Last season, the Hokies earned their first win against JMU's lacrosse program. The 10-9 victory in Harrisonburg on Feb. 16, 2022, wasn't only Tech's first win in the series, but head coach Kristen Skiera's first win as leader of Virginia Tech. Olivia Vergano scored the game-winning goal with 2:02 remaining to clinch the ranked win.
