Hokie ClubBLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech women's tennis wrapped up a productive weekend to begin fall play. The Hokies had 10 student-athletes compete in events at Elon and William & Mary.
The Hokies started their fall schedule off strong on Friday, Sept. 16 at the Elon Fall Invitational. Freshman Taylor Rieckert picked up her first win of her collegiate career in a three-set match. Sophomore Charlotte Cartledge looked to be building off her strong freshman campaign, as she also went the distance in her first singles match to earn a win. On Saturday, Cartledge and Sabina Richtrova picked up an 8-5 win in doubles. Richtrova wrapped up the Hokies' time at Elon on Sunday with 10-point tiebreak win after splitting the first two sets of her match.
In Williamsburg, Va., sophomores Dariya Radulova and Semra Aksu started off strong in singles with wins in straight sets. Sophie Mitchell and Lily Backbirth teamed up for a doubles win, as well. Aksu continued her hot start into Sunday, when she picked up two more wins to claim the top spot in the Gold Draw. Makenna Doyle earned the first two wins of her collegiate career on Sunday, as she picked up a pair of convincing straight-set wins.
