BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech women's tennis head coach Terry Ann Zawacki-Holdren is thrilled to announce the addition of Makenna Doyle and Taylor Rieckert to the upcoming Hokies roster.
Makenna Doyle
Virginia Beach, Va.
Florida Virtual High School
Doyle, a four-star recruit per TennisRecruitingNetwork.com, will bring a proven pedigree of success to the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center this fall. In her career thus far, Doyle has competed in an array of impressive events, including Clay Court Nationals, Hard Court Nationals, the Easter Bowl, the Orange Bowl, the Eddie Herr International Junior Championship and several Mid-Atlantic sectional tournaments.
As someone familiar with playing in big matches similar to those that ACC competition creates, Doyle cites reaching doubles finals and singles semifinals in L2 tournaments as some of her favorite moments of her career.
Doyle plans to study Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise with aspirations of working in the medical field one day. In her free time, she enjoys reading and photography.
Taylor Rieckert
Grovetown, Ga.
Aquinas High School
Rieckert joins the Hokies following a four-year letter winner career at Aquinas, where she played Court 1 her entire career. The 5-foot-8 future Hokie has competed on several big stages, including USTA L1 and L2 events in Midlothian, Va. and Rome, Ga., along with the USTA Southern Championships.
With her sights already set on Blacksburg, Rieckert had a dominant senior season – dropping only 11 games the entire year. These results led to her being named team MVP for a fourth-consecutive season.
Rieckert, a four-time honor roll student, will study Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise. When not playing competitively, she enjoys playing tennis with her two younger brothers.
