BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech men's and women's cross country teams look to keep the season going at the 2022 NCAA Southeast Regionals in Louisville, Ky. on Friday. The women's 6k is set to begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by the men's 10k at 12:00 p.m. Live Results
The top-two scoring teams from each regional meet will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Stillwater, Okla. on Nov. 19. 13 at-large teams will also be selected following the completion of all regional races. In addition to the 31 teams, the top four individuals from each regional who finish in the top-25 overall and are not associated with a placing team will advance.
Leading the men, Antonio Lopez Segura earned All- ACC honors at the 2022 ACC Cross Country Championships on Friday, Oct.28 at the Panorama Farms Country Course finishing 11th with a time of 23:19.0. Earlier this season, Lopez Segura ran a personal-best 6k time of 18:31.6 on Sept. 2 finishing third overall. At the Panorama Farms XC23 Invitational, he stopped the clock with a personal-best 8k time of 23:15.5 finishing third. Lopez Segura looks to improve upon his 15th place finish at the 2021 Regionals clocking in a time of 29:48.3.
Lindsey Butler returns to the Hokies lineup after leading the team at the ACC Championships finishing 26th with a personal-best time of 20:22.8 (6k). Butler earned All-Region honors in 2021crossing the line in 22nd place with a time of 20:49.7. The women's team is backed by a strong lineup of experienced athletes. Senior Cheyenne Leatham scored 36th at the conference championships with a personal-best time of 20:32.2. Ava Hassebrock stopped the clock with a time of 20:36.6 scoring 39th, followed by Grace Boone running a personal-best time of 20:56.6 scoring 50th.
Virginia Tech scored sixth in 2021 with 210 points for the women's team, while the men's team scored 10th with 286 points.
