Virginia Tech set to take on nation in Oregon

BLACKSBURG – All roads lead to Hayward as the final collegiate track & field meet of the year has arrived. Representing Virginia Tech at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships from Wednesday, June 8 to Saturday, June 11 will be nine entries set to compete as some of the best athletes in the sport.
 
The four-day national championship meet is hosted by Oregon at Hayward Field in Eugene. Live results will be provided by Flash Results and live coverage of the entire championships will be hosted by the ESPN family of networks.
 
Tech will send 12 athletes to Oregon across seven events, as the Hokies' men's squad competes on Wednesday and Friday, and the women's team competes on Thursday and Saturday.

WHAT'S AT STAKE
With national titles and All-American status on the line this week, Tech's squad are set to compete as part of the top 24 relays and individual event athletes in the country. Athletes and relays that place 1st through 8th will earn first team All-America honors, while athletes who finish 9th through 16th take home second team. Finishing from 17th to 24th earns honorable mention All-America status.
 
Earlier this year Tech claimed 14 All-American honors at the indoor national meet, and last year the Hokies earned eight All-American honors at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
 
ATHLETES COMPETING
Rachel Baxter | W Pole Vault | Thu. 9 PM
The reigning NCAA indoor pole vault champion, Baxter looks to make history at Hayward Field this week and close out her collegiate career with a second national title. Currently holding the No. 3 mark in the NCAA outdoors, Baxter has her sights set on the pole vault crown yet again. 

Khalil Bedoui | M Hammer | Wed. 5 PM
In his first year as a Hokie, Bedoui has already etched his name among the list of legendary Hokie hammer throwers. The ACC bronze medalist from Doha, Qatar will look to launch the implement far this week and take on the national field. 

Chauncey Chambers | M Triple Jump | Fri. 9:20 PM
Making his second trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in as many years, Chambers has put together incredible leaps so far this season. The Springfield, Va. native brings the No. 10 qualifying mark out of the East Region and will take flight among the top jumpers in the NCAA. 

Julia Fixsen | W Pole Vault | Thu. 9 PM
Joining her teammate in Thursday's competition, Fixsen looks to continue her outstanding season in the vault. Taking bronze in the event at Indoor NCAAs and Indoor ACCs, Fixsen finished as the runner-up at ACC Outdoors and brings momentum and talent to Eugene as the No. 7 seeded vaulter in the nation. 

Ben Fleming | M 3000m Steeple | Wed. 8:02 PM (semis), Fri. 9:24 PM (finals)
Tech's third-straight men's ACC steeplechase champion, Fleming can clear the 3,000m steeple barriers as well as anyone in the nation. The Blacksburg native brings the No. 5 time in the nation to Oregon and will look to make his mark this week. 

Essence Henderson | W Discus | Sat. 5:05 PM
Bringing unrivaled energy to the NCAA Championships, Henderson takes on the discus competition as the East Prelim's winner and No. 2 overall seed. Henderson will compete under the lights in Hayward for the third time in two seasons, after throwing at last year's NCAA Championships and USATF Olympic Trials. 

Sara Killinen | W Hammer | Thu. 6 PM
The No. 2 hammer thrower in ACC history has thrown further and further all of 2022 and hopes to make NCAAs her best competition yet. Claiming the No. 6 seed and finishing as the No. 3 qualifier out of the East, Killinen looks ready to launch the hammer well in Oregon. 

Ben Nibbelink | M 3000m Steeple | Wed. 8:02 PM (semis), Fri. 9:24 PM (finals)
This year has seen a return to form and speed for Nibbelink, who has tackled the steeplechase better than ever in 2022. Climbing up the Hokies' all-time list into third and placing fifth at the ACC Championships, Nibbelink is geared up for nationals. 

Men's 4x100m | Wed. 7:32 PM (semis), Fri. 9:02 PM (finals)
All year long the 4x1 squad of Kahleje "KJ" Tillmon, Torrence Walker, Kennedy Harrison, and Cole Beck have rewritten the Hokies' records in the event. Boasting two sub-39 times this season and Tech's first ever ACC 4x100m title, the No. 4 seeded Hokies eye a perfect lap and national glory this week.
