Virginia Tech drops decisive NCAA Super Regional game to Florida

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Freshman Lexie Delbrey and senior Natalie Lugo combined to throw a shutout on Sunday as No. 14-seed Florida defeated the third-seeded Virginia Tech softball team 12-0 in five innings.

Senior Keely Rochard (26-4) got the ball to start for Virginia Tech (46-10) and took the loss.

In the batter's box, the Hokies were led by junior Morgan Overaitis, who went 2-for-2 on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Virginia Tech did not advance a runner past second base in the game. The Hokies went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position, last placing a runner as far as second in the fourth, when Overaitis made it into scoring position with one out.

GAME NOTES

» Virginia Tech pitchers faced 32 Florida hitters in the game, allowing eight ground balls and three fly balls while striking out two.
» The Hokies drew five walks from Florida pitching.
» Florida was led offensively by junior Skylar Wallace, who went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI.
» Lugo led the Gators pitching staff, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings.
