BLACKSBURG – Following the NCAA Tournament Softball Selection Show on Sunday night, Virginia Tech softball head coach Pete D'Amour and select players met with the media for a press conference. For what the Hokies had to say about their national seed and hosting regionals:
HEAD COACH PETE D'AMOUR
On getting the No. 3 overall seed:
"We earned it. Really proud of our kids. Our plan worked out. Now we just got to go out there and win more games."
On hosting two teams it has already faced this season and if that's good:
"I think so. There is some familiarity with those two teams, but obviously they're very good. Those teams are playing well and we are, too. So, we'll see how it goes."
CATCHER MACKENZIE LAWTER
On being here for so long and seeing the hard work finally paying off with a national seed:
"It's really exciting for sure. It's just a tribute to what we've been able to do all season. This is something we've been working for, so we're really excited for Blacksburg and to see everybody this weekend."
PITCHER KEELY ROCHARD
On playing in the postseason in front of Hokie Nation:
"It's going to help a lot, especially in this environment. Again, it really helps that this fan base has shown up so much this season. We're used to playing in front of a packed home crowd and I hope that happens for regionals and supers."
DESIGNATED PLAYER MEREDITH SLAW
On being a national seed:
"It's really exciting to see and we're going to host, too, so that's really awesome. We're going to have the new stands and more fans. So, it's going to be a really nice environment here at Tech."
