Hokies battle Eagles, fall 19-13 in ACC Quarterfinals

The Virginia Tech lacrosse team (9-9, 2-6) fell to second-ranked and second-seeded Boston College 19-13 Friday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the ACC Championships. 
 
Four Hokies tallied two goals in the contest and four others were on the scoresheet, led by midfielder Sophie Student who had four points (1G, 3A). 
 
Freshman Olivia Vergano who was one of those to tally twice, recorded a career-best 11 draw controls in the game. Tech won the battle on the draw 20-16 in the game.

How It Happened
Whitney Liebler scored the game's first goal after 61 seconds, giving the Hokies a brief lead before Boston College scored the next four goals of the game to take control of the game. After the first quarter, the Eagles led 6-3 and they doubled the advantage heading into the locker room.
 
Tech outscored BC 5-4 in the third quarter, buoyed by success on the draw circle.

» Sam Rippley made her first start as a Hokie in the game.
» Sophomore goalie Lilly Kannapell played 52:29 and made 14 saves on 36 shots faced.
