NFL Draft On Deck For Hokies

BLACKSBURG – One of the biggest weeks of the year for those who love football takes place this weekend in Las Vegas, as the 2022 NFL Draft will happen Thursday through Saturday.

The first round takes place on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET, while the second and third rounds are on Friday starting at 7 p.m. The final day, which is rounds 4-7, starts at noon. Coverage will be on ABC, ESPN and NFL Network.

Teams will have 10 minutes per selection in the first round and seven minutes in the second round. Rounds 3-6, including compensatory selections, will be have a maximum of five minutes per pick and the seventh round will be allotted four minutes per pick. 

A grand total of 262 picks will be made, including compensatory selections. Tech's draftees will be awaiting their names to be called from their homes and other locations across the country.

Virginia Tech, which held its Pro Day last month with 14 Hokies participating, seeks to continue its impressive run of NFL Draft picks over the years, with Tech having a selection in 27 of the last 28 drafts.

Heading into the weekend, defensive lineman Amaré Barno is expected to be the first off the board and tight end James Mitchell, who is coming off a season-ending injury, seems to be next. The Athletic has them both going in the fourth round, with offensive lineman Lecitus Smith being selected in the fifth round.

According to NFL.com's Chad Reuter, defensive back Jermaine Waller and defensive lineman Jordan Williams both are projected to go in the seventh round.
