BLACKSBURG -- The Virginia Tech lacrosse team (9-8, 2-6) fell to rival Virginia 18-11 Thursday night at Thompson Field.
How It Happened
Virginia scored the opening goal of the contest two minutes in, before the Hokies would score two of their own and hold the lead for 21 seconds as UVA struck right back through Rachel Clark. The Hoos scored three straight to open a 4-2 advantage before Sarah Lubnow scored the final goal of the opening frame.
The second quarter was a tightly contested affair with both squads going on runs and the period ended with a buzzer-beating goal from the Cavaliers' Mackenzie Hoag.
Tech scored the first goal of the second half through Whitney Liebler, but would only score one more that period as the Cavaliers extended their advantage.
The Hokies scored the game's final two goals, to pull the deficit back to seven.

What's next
The Hokies will play in the ACC Tournament next week in South Bend, Indiana. Seeding, opponent, game times and dates are still to be determined.
