THE SERIES

  • Virginia Tech and Virginia have met 27 times previously with the Cavaliers winning on 24 occasions.
  • The Hokies won the last meeting, a 20-15 game in Charlottesville on April 24, 2021 in the second game of the season series.
  • VT is 2-10 at home against the Cavaliers all-time.
  • The Hokies have registered their two biggest victories in terms of upsetting top-ranked teams against the Virginia program. In 2021, UVA was ranked eighth nationally and in 2012 Tech knocked off the seventh-ranked Cavs, a game which still stands as the highest ranked victory in program history.

A WIN WOULD…

  • Get the Hokies to 10 wins for the first time since 2018 when VT won 14 games.
  • Be the program's 200th victory.
  • Clinch the Commonwealth Clash for the Hokies.

Following a halt during the 2019-20 academic year due to COVID-19 implications, the Commonwealth Clash has been renewed and has a new presenting sponsor in Smithfield. The Commonwealth Clash is a friendly, statewide rivalry between Virginia Tech and Virginia and their school-sponsored sports, with 22 individual event points on the line. The school that accumulates 11.5 points or more has been annually crowned the winner and takes home the Commonwealth Clash trophy, presented by Smithfield.
