FARMVILLE, Va. – The No. 6/5 Hokies hit the road on Tuesday, making the trip to Farmville to take on the Longwood Lancers in midweek action. Tech is coming off an undefeated weekend, with its third ACC series sweep, this time against North Carolina.
LAST TIME OUT
The Hokies defeated the Tar Heels 10-0, 8-5 and 9-1 to remain undefeated in ACC play. Tech is now 9-0 in ACC play, the lone undefeated team in the ACC standings. The Hokies have won 10 straight, including the last seven at home. Keely Rochard continued her dominance in the circle, going 2-0 in the North Carolina series and also earning the save in game two. The senior finished her weekend with a 0.60 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 11.2 innings pitched.
FAGAN FIREPOWER
Cameron Fagan had a great weekend at the plate for the Hokies against the Tar Heels, hitting .556 on the weekend with five hits, including two doubles and a home run. She also tallied four RBI with a 1.111 slugging percentage. In game two against UNC, Fagan was a triple away from hitting for the cycle, tallying a single, double and a two-run home run. She had three RBI that game, crucial to the Hokies 8-5 win. Fagan followed that up with two hits in the game three win, including her second double of the weekend. Fagan was solid at second base, posting a perfect fielding percentage with four putouts and two assists.
OFFENSE ROLLING
The Hokies put up 24 RBI against the Tar Heels this past weekend, outscoring UNC 27-6. Tech's batting average on the weekend was .408 with nine extra base hits, compared to a .172 put up by the Tar Heels. Hokies are now hitting .321 as a team. Freshman Bre Peck leads the team in home runs with five, followed by Mackenzie Lawter with four. Sophomore Emma Ritter has the team-high in batting average with .419, the only Hokie hitting over .400.
BEST ACC START
Tech's 9-0 start in conference games is the league's best start since Florida State began league play 10-0 back in 2018. The Hokies' nine straight ACC wins are tied for the program's second-longest winning streak in conference games and is only four shy of the 13 consecutive league contests the team won during a stretch of the 2014 season.
