North Carolina up next for No. 6/5 Virginia Tech

Game Notes

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The No. 6/5 Virginia Tech Hokies are back in action at Tech Softball Park this weekend, hosting North Carolina in a three-game series beginning on Friday. Friday's game will be broadcast live on ACC Network, with Saturday and Sunday's games on ACC Network Extra.
 
LAST TIME OUT
 
The Hokies swept Syracuse last weekend for their second straight ACC series sweep of the season. Tech defeated the Orange 13-1, 8-1 and 6-1. Bre Peck hit .778 over the series with six RBI and two home runs. In the game three win, she went 2-for-3 on the day with two home runs and four RBI, a career-high for the freshman. Keely Rochard went 2-0 on the weekend and Emma Lemley went 1-0 with the game two win. The Hokie pitching staff combined for 43 strikeouts and put up a 1.11 ERA.
 
BEST ACC START
 
The Hokies swept Syracuse last weekend to start 6-0 in ACC play, the best start to conference play in school history. Tech hasn't started undefeated through six games in conference play since joining the ACC. The Hokies started 5-1 in 2019 and 2016
 
A WEEK AGO
 
The Hokies hit .448 over four games last week, including 12 home runs over the four wins. Tech put up a .905 slugging percentage with nine extra base hits plus the 12 home runs. Opponents only hit .145 against Hokie pitchers with five extra base hits. Peck led the team with a .636 batting average and two home runs, two doubles and a 1.364 slugging percentage. Mackenzie Lawter also hit two home runs over the week, now tied for the team-lead with Peck, with four total.
 
CLOSING IN ON 1,000
 
Keely Rochard is currently at 930 career strikeouts, closing in on 1,000 in her great Hokie career. With her 17-strikeout game against the Orange, she also moved to the second spot in school history in total strikeouts. She is currently averaging 12.4 strikeouts per seven innings, which ranks second in the conference and sixth in the nation. Her 138 strikeouts so far this season rank first in the ACC and second nationally.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Hokies hit the road on Tuesday, taking on Longwood in a doubleheader on Tuesday in Farmville, Va. Tech will then make the trip to Pennsylvania to take on Pitt in a three-game ACC series.
