Notable numbers ahead of Virginia Tech's NCAA Tournament appearance

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech men's basketball is headed to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth consecutive season. On Friday, March 18, the No. 11 seed Hokies will face No. 6 seed Texas in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

284Seven members of Virginia Tech's squad have played in an NCAA Tournament game for a combined 284 minutes of action. Keve Aluma and Storm Murphy teamed up at Wofford for an appearance in 2018-19 before Aluma joined the Hokies for their run last season. Nahiem Alleyne, Justyn Mutts, David N'Guessan and Hunter Cattoor appeared in last year's first round matchup against Florida, while Lynn Kidd recorded minutes with Clemson.

11Virginia Tech is a No. 11 seed – the lowest it has ever been – for the first time in school history. When the Hokies take the floor against the Longhorns, it will be their first time facing a No. 6 seed in the Big Dance.
Tech has become familiar with the underdog role, as it became the lowest seed (No. 7) to ever win the ACC Tournament when they claimed the conference crown this past Saturday against top-seeded Duke.

5The Hokies have been in the field of the last five NCAA Tournaments, dating back to the 2016-17 season. This extends Virginia Tech men's basketball's longest streak of tournament berths, which previously was two (1979-80 and 1985-86).

The Hokies have two wins in the East bracket in six attempts after being placed in that region in four of the last five years. Virginia Tech's last appearance in the East was during the 2019 NCAA Tournament run that saw Tech reach the Sweet Sixteen.
