Offense continues to shine in No. 6 Virginia Tech's 13-1 win over Syracuse

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Head coach Pete D'Amour reached career-win 200 Friday afternoon as the No. 6 Hokies run-ruled Syracuse 13-1Sophomore Emma Ritter racked up four RBIs to help lead Tech to victory and senior Keely Rochard (9-2) received the win in the circle. 

D'Amour became the fastest coach in school history to reach 100 wins at Virginia Tech a season ago, also in a win over Syracuse.

Rochard went three innings, giving up one run on two hits, allowing one walk and striking out seven. Sophomore Ivy Rosenberry also pitched well, going two shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking two and striking out three.

Ritter went 1-for-1 with a grand slam and a walk in addition to her four RBIs for the Hokies. Freshman Bre Peck compiled a standout effort as well, going 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Senior Darby Trull also helped out for Virginia Tech, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding two RBIs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 1-0, the Hokies first put runs on the board in the second inning. Virginia Tech got an RBI single from Trull, scoring Peck from second base.

The game remained tied until the very next inning, when the Hokies got going again on offense. The Virginia Tech offense exploded for 10 runs, highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of Ritter and a two-run single from junior Morgan Overaitis, which brought the Hokies lead to 11-1.

Virginia Tech held Syracuse scoreless before expanding their lead to 13-1 the following inning. Sophomore Emma Yates' run-scoring single highlighted a two-run output in the frame for the Hokies. The score remained 13-1 for the rest of the game, as Virginia Tech took the game one win.

» Ritter led the Hokies at the plate, going 1-for-1 with a grand and four RBIs.
» Syracuse was led offensively by senior Neli Casares-Maher, who went 1-for-1.
