Trio of Hokies earn ACC Performer of the Week honors

ACC Release

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The ACC has released the sixth installment of its Performers of the Week, with Rachel Baxter, Lindsey Butler, and Antonio Lopez Segura featuring for the Hokies.

Baxter picks up her first honor of the season as Women's Field Performer of the Week and the seventh of her career following her NCAA No. 2 pole vault at the Doc Hale Elite Meet. Clearing up to 4.48m (14' 8.25") with no faults in her series, Baxter set a new top mark in the ACC this season and leaped into second in the NCAA. With less than three weeks until the ACC Indoor Championships, Baxter has her sights set on a fourth consecutive indoor ACC pole vault title.

Butler picks up the first ACC Women's Track Performer of the Week honor of her career following her conference-leading 800m at the Camel City Invitational. The junior out of Corning, N.Y. finished as the top collegian with her time of 2:05.03 at JDL Fast Track, her converted time of 2:03.61 ranking as the No. 2 time in the NCAA this season.

Joining Butler at the Camel City Invitational, Lopez Segura also finished as the first collegiate athlete in the 3,000m, posting an unconverted time of 7:49.03 to break Virginia Tech's school record and take the top spot in the ACC. After conversion from the flat track, the Spanish runner's time of 7:43.64 ranks second in the NCAA this year, earning him Men's Track Co-Performer of the Week.

Up next for the Hokies are two away trips this weekend, as most of the team travels to Clemson for the Tiger Paw Invitational and the distance squad heads to Liberty for the Darius Dixon Memorial. Less than three weeks remain until Virginia Tech hosts the 2022 ACC Indoor Championships, and athletes are gearing up for strong competition through the end of indoor season.
