No. 23 Virginia Tech plays host to No. 3 NC State on Senior Day

VT WBB notes G29 NC State

Blacksburg -- The Virginia Tech women's basketball team (21-7, 13-4) returns to the court on Sunday evening when they take on the No. 3 NC State Wolfpack (25-3, 16-1).

Tech fended off a scrappy Miami team to earn a 70-63 win Thursday night in the penultimate game of the season. Center Elizabeth Kitley recorded her third consecutive double-double with an 18-point, 12-rebound performance and was joined in double figures by Aisha Sheppard (16) and Emily Lytle (12).

Sunday will serve as Senior Day for the program as the Hokies honor and celebrate three young women for their contributions to the program; Sheppard, Lytle and Chloe Brooks.

The game is also an Orange Effect game, fans are encouraged to wear orange.

THE SERIES

  • VT is 2-24 all-time against NC State.
  • VT is 1-19 against the Wolfpack in ACC play.
  • VT is 1-10against NC State at home.
  • The Hokies fell 51-45 to the Wolfpack in Raleigh on January 23 in the first meeting this season.
  • Last time NC State visited Cassell (Jan. 28, 2021) the Hokies registered a historic 83-71 victory over the No. 2 Wolfpack. The win served as the program's first over a team ranked in the AP's top four. The Hokies tied an NCAA record by scoring 26 points in the OT session and Aisha Sheppard personally scored 18, an NCAA record.

A WIN WOULD…
• Lift the Hokies to a 14th ACC victory. The Hokies own 13 ACC wins for the first time since joining the conference in 2004. Tech's previous high was 11, set in 2019-20.
• Move the Hokies to 9-0 at Cassell Coliseum in ACC games, which would be a program record for most home wins in conference since joining the league. The last time that VT finished a conference season perfect at home was the 1989-99 season when the Hokies went 8-0 in the Metro Conference.
