Rochard dominant for No. 7 Virginia Tech in shutout victory over Ohio State

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Senior Keely Rochard was dealing on Friday afternoon, throwing a three-hit shutout to lead the No. 7 Virginia Tech Hokies over the Ohio State Buckeyes 1-0.

Rochard (5-1) went the distance for Virginia Tech (9-2), giving up three hits, walking none and striking out 17. She had a perfect game heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.

Senior Mackenzie Lawter led the way offensively for the Hokies, with a double and an RBI. Sophomore Cameron Fagan compiled a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 and scoring the game-winning run.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hokies took the lead for good in the ninth, scoring for the first and only time in the inning. Virginia Tech got on the board thanks to Lawter's RBI double with two outs. Rochard worked out of a jam in the bottom of the ninth with a ground out to end the game with runners on second and third.
