Blacksburg -- The Virginia Tech lacrosse team (2-1) won its home opener over VCU 17-9 Saturday afternoon behind four goals from junior attacker Paige Tyson and four other Hokies who scored multiple goals.
How It Happened
The Hokies jumped out to a 3-0 lead with goals from Olivia Vergano and Whitney Liebler in the opening minutes. The lead stretched to 7-1 into the second quarter before the Rams put together consecutive goals to cut the lead to 7-4 at halftime.
VCU would score two of the first three goals in the second half before VT put together a 9-1 stretch between the third and fourth quarters to extend the lead and close it out.

» Hannah Mardiney registered her first hat trick as a VT player.
» Freshman Olivia Vergano recorded her first career hat trick in the game.
