Tech drops ACC opener to Wake Forest

BLACKSBURG, VA -- Virginia Tech dropped its first home game of the season on Saturday afternoon, falling 80-61 to Wake Forest in the ACC opener for both squads.

The Hokies (6-3, 0-1 ACC) had two players score in double figures, led by Keve Aluma, who had 23 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Justyn Mutts tacked on 15 points and Storm Murphy added seven points.

Wake Forest (8-1, 1-0 ACC) shot .635 from the field, the highest any team has shot from the field against Virginia Tech since Dayton shot .636 on Nov. 26, 2019.

Dallas Walton led the way for the Demon Deacons, putting up a team-high 17 points.

How It Happened

After falling behind 23-12, Virginia Tech went on a 7-0 run with 9:46 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Darius Maddox, to narrow its deficit to 23-19. The Hokies deficit remained the same as they entered halftime trailing 38-34.

Virginia Tech could not pull any closer in the second half, as Wake Forest shot .667 from the field in the second stanza.
