Cold Weather
The temperature at kickoff was 45° F. Tech is now 42-21 in games when the temperature was 45° or below at the opening kick. The coldest game on record (since 1987) was 25° when the Hokies faced Cincinnati on Nov. 21, 1987 in Lane Stadium.
Malachi continues to lead
Running back Malachi Thomas led the Hokies' rushing attack again Friday night. The true freshman rushed for 70 yards on 13 carries. He now has a net of 372 yards rushing on 70 attempts on the season and just three total lost yards.
Kicking game
Peter Moore recorded a career long 68-yard punt in the second quarter. The last time a Hokie punter registered an attempt of 68 yards or better was Sept. 7, 2019 when Oscar Bradburn had a 69-yard punt against Old Dominion. Jimmy Kibble (Pitt, 1997) and Michael Branthover (Duke, 2011) share the record (since 1987) for longest punt at 75 yards.
