Responsibilities: Salas maintains the web servers, writes code for and designs the website for the Virginia Tech athletics department.

At Virginia Tech: Salas has helped keep the stats for men's and women's basketball teams since 1995 and for the football program since 1996. He was in charge of keeping the 500 computers in the Math Emporium running and up-to-date from 1998-2000. He also has worked as the public address announcer at many sporting events, in addition to keeping the scoreboard, playing music and taking photos at those events.
Prior to Virginia Tech: Salas started working at Tech while going to school at the university and hasn't left.
Education: Enrolled at Virginia Tech, fall 1994.
Of Note: Salas holds a black belt in karate. In the summer of 2016, Salas raised over $5,400 for Bike The US for MS, a local organization that organizes cross country cycling trips to raise awareness for multiple sclerosis research, and participated in a 62-day, 3,785-mile cross country bike ride from Yorktown, Va. to San Francisco. He was also featured on the Virginia Tech Human Resources website as an extraordinary employee. Salas is also PAVO certified as a volleyball scorekeeper and was selected to work the 2021 NCAA DIII Men's Volleyball Championship.
Personal: A native of Poquoson, Va., Salas currently lives in Christiansburg, Va. When not attending Virginia Tech sporting events, he enjoys traveling, listening to music, and watching movies.
