Hokies came ready to compete for day one of the Ohio State Invite

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Hokies wrap up day one of competition at the Ohio State Invitational. The Hokies came out strong during the first set of events. There were many Top 25 swims, as well as some personal bests.

TECH WOMEN
Chase Travis swam a personal best during the preliminary round of the 500 Free with a time of 4:44.30. She sits in fifth in Virginia Tech history, as well as in the Top 25 of the country. Later in the evening, she placed fourth in the finals. She beat her prelims time and swam a 4:43.71. 
 
Reka Gyorgy swam a 2:00.21 during the 200 IM prelims, earning her a spot in the Top 25. During the finals, she beat her previous time swimming a 1:59.62. She also swam in the 500 free, earning 24th with a time of 4:52.12. She was the second leg of the 400 medley relay with Atkinson, Franz, and Shackelford that earned a place in the Top 25. 
 
Anna Landon took 16th in the 50 free during the preliminary round. She improved in the finals earning 14th with a time of 22.44. She was also a part of the 4th place 200 free relay with Shackelford, Atkinson, and Bentz. 
 
TECH MEN
During the preliminary round this morning, Antani Ivanov took home first place on the 500 Free. He swam a time of 4:19.20 which earned him a spot in the Top 25 of the country. In the finals, he swam a 4:19.11. In the same event, Luis Dominguez earned his name in the Hokie Top 10 with a time of 4:21.46 in the finals. Ivanov was the third leg of the 200 free relay that placed second and finished in the top 25 of the country. He concluded the night in the Top 25 400 medley relay. 
 
Carles Coll Marti was seated first in the 200 IM. He placed second in prelims with a time of 1:44.30, breaking into the Top 25. In the finals, he shaved off a second swimming 1:43.44 and taking first place. He was also a part of the 200 free relay that placed second in the finals with Ramadan, Ivanov, and Manoff, earning a top 25 finish with 1:17.43. He finished the day as the second leg of the 400 medley relay with Manoff, Ivanov, and Ramadan. 
 
Youssef Ramadan had a strong start during the 50 free prelims. He finished in 19.37, breaking into the Top 25. During the first event of the finals, he was the leadoff in the 200 free relay and swam a 50 free split of 19.21, even faster than his prelim time. He was a part of the 400 medley relay and 200 free relay that both placed in the Top 25.

The Day 2 events will follow the same schedule as Day 1. There will be two relays (finals only), the 200 medley relay and the 800 free relay. The individual events will be the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, and 100 back. On the boards, the men and women will switch. The men will dive from 3 meters and the women will dive from 1 meter.
