Hokies fall to NC State Friday night

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Virginia Tech volleyball team took a 3-0 setback at NC State Friday night, falling 25-14, 25-12 and 25-19. The Hokies fall to 9-8 overall and 0-5 in ACC play. The Wolfpack are now 8-8, 2-3 in the ACC.
 
NC State came out strong in the first two sets, taking the lead early in both sets and never relinquishing it. The third set was a tighter battle, as the Hokies came within a point at 19-18 after a kill from Amanda Lowe. Tech tried to build off the momentum but the Wolfpack used a 5-0 run to force match point.
 
Melissa Evans had a solid game offensively for the Wolfpack, registering 12 kills and hitting .375 percent. Riley Shaak also hit .571 on the night and had three solo blocks and two block assists. Defensively, Taylor Rowland had a team-high 14 digs.
 
For the Hokies, Griere Hughes had seven kills and two digs, as well as two block assists. Anabel Zier also had two solo blocks. Logan Mosley ended her night with 12 digs and Brie Postema recorded 12 assists for the Hokies.
 
Virginia Tech completes its road trip on Sunday, taking on North Carolina. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
