BLACKSBURG – Leading up to the seventh game of the season against Syracuse, select Virginia Tech football players met with the media for a press conference on Tuesday. Read what they had to say below.
QUARTERBACK BRAXTON BURMEISTER
On his connection with freshman wide receiver Da'Wain Lofton:
"Yeah, it's been great. He came in early and I got a lot of reps with him during the spring. Whenever he's out there, I feel really comfortable. Sometimes when it's a true freshman out there, you worry if they know exactly what they're doing. But with the Loft [De'Wain Lofton], I always know he's on the same page as me. So, he is always going to run the right routes and be where he's supposed to be. So, I'm really comfortable with them and I think he's comfortable with me, as well."
LINEBACKER DAX HOLLIFIELD
On when he's older and done playing football if he hopes to coach:
"I really do like coaching. I do think I'm going to coach someday. My dad was a coach, he coached football at my high school. So, I was always in the gym. It was cool because I grew up there, but I could see myself being a coach."
DEFENSIVE BACK CHAMARRI CONNER
On making sure the focus moves on to Syracuse:
"You know, it's tough. It's tough for the brand-new guys. We are always going to stick together no matter what. There is nothing else to say because we are ready."
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN TYJUAN GARBUTT
On some of the positive takeaways against Pitt:
"Some of the positive takeaways are that we played as hard as we possibly could and there's always room for improvement. We didn't play excellent defense and we didn't play as stellar as we wanted to. But, some positive takeaways were that we did a good job if keeping them under duress, cutting their points in half and cutting their yards in half."
OFFENSIVE LINEMAN LUKE TENUTA
On his thoughts on how the offensive line has played so far:
"There's been some shuffling and so guys are in some new spots, and I think everyone that's been put in new spots and have been asked to do things have done well. Obviously, we need to run the ball better and to execute starts up front when it comes to protecting the quarterback. We've been working on doing that and I think as the season goes on that we will keep doing our job and get better at it."
