BLACKSBURG  — The No. 24 Virginia Tech women's golf team is set to make the trip down south to compete in the 45th edition of the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational, following the event's one year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It's only the second time the Hokies have competed in the event, which first hosted Tech back in 2017. The historic three-day tournament will be hosted by North Carolina, and will be held at UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C. from Oct. 15-17.

Virginia Tech is coming off a ninth-place finish after shooting an even-par 284 on the third day of competition to elevate the Hokies in the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate hosted by Tennessee in Knoxville.

Tech was led by standout freshman Ginnie Lee, who shot a 1-under 212 to tie for fourth at the 54-hole event that took place at Cherokee Country Club. It was also the Switzerland native's first top-five finish since arriving in Blacksburg earlier this summer.

Senior Emily Mahar also recorded a top-20 finish. Shooting a 3-over 216 over the course of the three-day event.

The Hokies will go with a similar lineup this weekend to what head coach Carol Robertson has penciled in so far this season. Lee, Mahar, junior Becca DiNunzio, and senior Keerattriya Foocharoen will all return to the course for the third straight time.

The lone change is junior Symone Henriques will compete in her first team event of the 2021-22 campaign, though she has traveled as an individual competitor both times this year.

The invitational will feature 19 teams, including No. 6 Michigan, No. 11 Alabama, No. 12 Duke, No. 13 Wake Forest and No. 30 Kentucky.

Tee times for the event are set to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Friday with Tech's opening round scheduled to begin at 10:20 a.m. with Wake Forest and Furman.
