Volleyball sweeps Wofford to remain undefeated at home

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech volleyball team went undefeated on Friday, sweeping Wofford to close out the first day of the Hokie Invite. This is the Hokies third sweep of the season as they remain a perfect 5-0 in Cassell Coliseum.
 
Griere Hughes and Amanda Lowe led the Hokies offensively for the second straight match, as Hughes tallied 12 kills with a .423 hitting percentage and Lowe recorded 11 kills and a .688 hitting percentage. Hughes' .423 hitting percentage is a season-high for her.
 
Mara Perry continues to perform well, assisting 20 kills and posting eight digs. Logan Mosley finished her match with 11 digs and a .944 reception percentage on 17 attempts. The Hokies also had their serve game going strong, recording seven aces. Cierra Huntley posted four, while Perry posted two and Hughes added one.
 
The first set was a decisive 25-16 victory for the Hokies, who had 14 kills and held Wofford to seven. Mekenzi Heckmann and Hughes both posted four kills for the Hokies. Tech also had five total blocks, as Tasha Vipond recorded a solo block and four other Hokies had at least one block assist.
 
Wofford bounced back to make the second set tight, as the Terriers had a 17-14 advantage at one point. The Hokies bounced back, going on a 6-2 run to take a 20-19 lead. Tech continued to press and a kill by Huntley ended the set in the Hokies favor, 26-24.
 
The third set was all Hokies as Tech finished the match with a 25-13 win. Offensively, five different Hokies recorded at least one kill. Tech hit a match-high .476 with 11 kills. Virginia Tech was also strong at the net, tallying five blocks to match the first set. The Hokies ended the match with 14 total blocks.
