Tech reveals 2021-22 women’s golf schedule

Opens in a new window 2021-22 Schedule

BLACKSBURG – Coming off its best season in program history, head coach Carol Robertson announced Wednesday the 2021-22 Virginia Tech women's golf schedule.

The Hokies return five golfers from last season's lineup that advanced to the NCAA Championship for the first time in program history. Tech recorded a 292.76 scoring average and ascended to a program-best 14th in the Golfstat national rankings. Headlining the returners are All-ACC honorees, Becca DiNunzio and Emily Mahar, who both have been excelling on the course this summer.

In addition to the all-conference duo, Alyssa Montgomery returns for her junior season. Her game is in great form heading into the fall season after winning the Tennessee Women's Amateur and finishing runner-up at the Tennessee Women's Open. The Hokies also welcome back Keerattriya Foocharoen and Beatriz Mosquera Quintas to go along with the eighth-ranked recruiting class in the country.

Tech gets its season underway, Sept. 13-14, at the Wolverine Invitational hosted by Michigan. The University of Michigan Golf Course will serve as the host site of the 54-hole event. The Hokies will get an added benefit by competing in this tournament since the course is one of four regional sites selected by the NCAA for May 2022.

The following week, Tech returns to the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate for the first time since 2017. Tennessee will host the tournament, Sept. 20-21, at Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville.

On Oct. 15-17, the Hokies will compete in the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational hosted by North Carolina at the Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill. Tech closes out the fall slate Oct. 29-31 at the Landfall Tradition hosted by UNC Wilmington at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, North Carolina.

To open the spring season, the Hokies will travel to Melbourne, Florida for the Moon Golf Invitational (Feb. 13-14). Tech tied for third at this event in 2018 with current senior Emily Mahar tying for fifth to lead the way.

Next up, the Hokies travel north to Tallahassee, Florida where the Florida State Matchup will take place, Feb. 25-27. Like at Michigan, Tech will once again get the opportunity to compete at a regional site when the squad tees it up at Seminole Legacy Golf Club.

The Hokies will compete at the Valspar Augusta Invitational, March 12-13, at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. The team finished fifth last season, highlighted by a record-breaking performance in the first round by Montgomery.

Tech will then travel to the Clemson Invitational where it will look to build upon its runner-up showing in 2021. The 54-hole event will take place March 25-27 at The Reserve at Lake Keowee in Sunset, South Carolina.

For the second straight season, the Hokies will conclude the regular season at a match play tournament. Tech will compete at the NC State Match Play, Apr. 3-4, at Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The 2022 ACC Women's Golf Championship is slated for Apr. 14-17 at The Reserve at Pawley's Island in Pawley's Island, South Carolina. Three rounds of stroke play on the first two days will cut the field to the low four teams for semifinals and finals of match play to determine the ACC champion.

The NCAA Regional round is May 9-11, with the NCAA Championship to be contested at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona for the second straight year, May 20-25. Tech will be seeking its fourth straight NCAA postseason appearance.
