Another year of academic success in the books for Tech men's tennis

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men's tennis team complemented its impressive outing on the courts in the 2020-21 season with a successful year in the classroom.

For the fourth-consecutive year, the Hokies were named an ITA All-Academic Team, meaning that the team GPA was a 3.2 or higher. Seven players were named ITA Scholar-Athletes: Ryan Fishback, Mitch Harper, Ryan Kros, Alex Ribeiro, Matthis Ross, Alvaro Saez-Royuela Ariza, and Frank Thompson. ITA Scholar-Athletes must have a GPA of at least 3.5 for the current academic year.

Along with national recognition, Virginia Tech had several student-athletes recognized at the conference level. Hugo Maia was named to the All-ACC Academic Men's Tennis Team, along with Fishback, Harper, Ribeiro, and Ross. The All-ACC Academic Team takes into consideration athletic achievement along with the standard of upholding a 3.0 or higher GPA in the previous semester and maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

The ACC Academic Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes that registered a 3.0 or higher GPA throughout the full academic year. Chase Bernstine, Carlo Donato, and Michael Shepheard joined Fishback, Harper, Kros, Maia, Ribeiro, Ariza, Shepheard, and Thompson as Hokies that received that honor.

Kros was one of six Virginia Tech student-athletes named to the VaSID Academic All-State Team. The senior graduated in the spring as a member of the Corps of Cadets with a degree in Building Construction.
