Trio of Hokies headline VaSID Women’s Golf All-State teams

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech's Becca DiNunzio, Emily Mahar and Carol Robertson were honored by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) organization Thursday when the University Division Women's Golf All-State teams were announced.

The top two golfers for the Hokies in scoring average, senior Emily Mahar and sophomore Becca DiNunzio, were named to the VaSID All-State first team. Robertson was named VaSID Women's Golf Coach of the Year.

This is Mahar's second straight year on the first team and fourth time being recognized overall. She finished the season with eight rounds of par or below and placed fifth at the Clemson Invitational for her best finish of the season. The Brisbane, Australia native had an average score of 72.81 for the Hokies.

DiNunzio had a breakout year for Tech that started off with a bang, carding a 67 at the Heroes Ladies Intercollegiate. She led the team with 12 rounds of par or below and had the best scoring average at 72.67.

The future is promising for the program as both players are set to return next season.

Robertson was named the organization's coach of the year for the third time in her Tech career. This is her second selection in a row.

She steered the Hokies to their most successful season in program history, reaching the NCAA Championship in Scottsdale, Arizona for the first time in program history. The team finished in the top five six of its eight tournaments this season.
