OMAHA –The Virginia Tech swim and dive team made waves with several notable performances in the U.S. Olympic Trials this past week in Omaha.
AJ Pouch had an impressive performance during the 200 breaststroke placing 12th in prelims and eighth in the semi-finals with his time improving by just short of 2 seconds. The rising Junior cut his time down even more during his final race, swimming a personal best of 2:10.35 taking fifth overall in the competition.
Pouch also advanced to the 100 breaststroke semi-finals and placed ninth overall with a time of 1:00.48.
Blake Manoff competed in three events over the week, his most notable performance being in the 100 butterfly. The rising senior placed ninth in prelims with a time of 52.23 advancing him to the semi-finals where he took 16th at 53.32.
At the Hong Kong Olympic trials, Hokie alumni Ian Ho claimed his spot on the 2020 Olympic Team and will be competing for Team Hong Kong in Toyko later this summer.
The 2020 Olympic Games will begin July 23rd and conclude on August 8th in Tokyo, Japan. Swimming competition will run from July 24th through August 1st at the Tokyo Aquatics Center in Koto City, Tokyo.
