Hokies fall 21-11 to fourth-ranked Boston College Saturday

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech lacrosse team fell to fourth-ranked Boston College 21-11 Saturday on Thompson Field, closing their home schedule for the 2021 season.
 
Tech had an early 2-1 lead after goals from Sarah Lubnow and Caroline Allen after some methodical build up in attacking third resulted in great goal scoring chances that the pair were able to capitalize on. The Eagles hit back with a two-goal streak of the their own to regain the lead and from there al Tech could do was tie it once more before Boston College went on the stretch their advantage.
 
Boston College, (9-1, 5-1) got 10 goals and an assist from All-American attacker Charlotte North who also controlled 12 draws in the game. 
 
Tech, (3-7, 0-5) was led in scoring by attacker Sarah Lubnow who scored four goals, while Caroline Allen and freshman Whitney Liebler added two each. Defender Leigh Lingo, on her Senior Day scored the first goal of her career. 
 


 
In defense, Kendall Welch had five ground balls for the second game in a row and the defender also caused three turnovers.
 
The program honored 12 student-athletes in a pregame ceremony; Caroline Allen, Angie Benson, Taylor Caskey, Emma Crooks, Carly Goetz, Kiley Kettle, Leigh Lingo, Mary Clare McCarthy, Paige Petty, Reilly Reed, Kara Reichert and Kendall Welch.
 
GAME NOTES
•Virginia Tech is now 5-16 against Boston College. 
•John Sung's record moves to 43-35 at Virginia Tech and 143-80 in his career as a head coach.
•Tech is 3-4 all-time on April 10.
 
NEXT TIME ON THE FIELD
