Hokies play host to ‘Hoos in midweek contest

BLACKSBURG – Fresh off its first week at home in almost two years, No. 18/16 Virginia Tech softball will play another home game this week when it plays host to Commonwealth Clash foe Virginia on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on ACC Network at Tech Softball Park.
 
The Hokies (15-4, 10-4 ACC) and Cavaliers (8-14, 4-12) play the first half of a nonconference home-and-home Wednesday and will play in Charlottesville on March 30. Tech is currently on a 10-game winning streak over the Cavs and is 46-22 all-time versus the in-state rival. 
 
The current capacity of Tech Softball Park is 300. After accounting for the families/guests of student-athletes and coaches for each team, approximately 150 spectators will be admitted on a first come, first served basis. Please see the Policies and Procedures link for more information.

Junior pitcher Keely Rochard (11-1) is coming off a career weekend against Pitt when she went 3-0 struck out 46 batters in 18.0 innings pitched, and didn't allow a run off three hits in the series. The Williamsburg, Virginia native set her career high with 19 strikeouts in Game 3 of the series and came back the next day and matched the mark in Game 4.

The Cavaliers are coming off a series split with NC State this past weekend in Charlottesville. At the plate, UVA is led by sophomore infielder Katie Goldberg who is hitting .338 on the season with 12 runs batted in. Seven pitchers have made appearances this season in the circle, with the staff owning a 3.97 earned runs average.
