Tech wraps up UNC Invitational

Chapel Hill, N.C. – The Virginia Tech men's and women's swimming and diving team wrapped up the Janis Hape Dowd UNC Invitational on Saturday. 

The No.17 Tech Women placed second with 657 points defeating both No.16 Duke (519) and No. 23 UNC (530). The ninth-ranked Tech Men placed third with 579.5 points defeating Duke (432) but falling to fourth-ranked NC State (1077.5) and No. 23 UNC (747).

TECH WOMEN
Senior Reka Gyorgy put out an impressive performance placing first in the 400 IM A finals with a time of (4:09.34). Gyorgy also placed third in the 200 fly (1:57.90) and fourth in the 500 free A finals (4:46.53) all while contributing to a third place finish in the 400 free relay. 
 
Sophomore Sarah Shackelford claimed third place in both the 50 (22.52) and 200 free A finals (1:47.52). Shackelford also led the fourth place 200 free relay team with split of 22.67 and final time of 1:30.61. 

Freshman Chase Travis continued to perform well for the Hokies placing second in both the 500 free A finals (4:44.55) and the 1650 free (16:09.30).

TECH MEN
Junior Antani Ivanov dominated in the 100 fly with a time of 46.18 claiming him first place in the A finals. Ivanov claimed second place in the 200 fly (1:41.73) while contributing to the second-place 400 medley relay team (3:09.34). 

Sophomore AJ Pouch pulled weight in the breaststroke with a second place finish in the 200 breast A finals (1:56.75) and fourth place finish in the 100 breast A finals (53.78). Pouch also contributed to the second place 400 medley (3:09.34) and the third place 200 medley relays (1:25.61).

Junior Blake Manoff took second place in the 200 free A finals with a time of 1:34.46 and fourth in the 100 fly with a time of (46.68). Manoff also contributed to the 400 medley relay (second place), 200 free relay (third place), 400 free relay (third place) and 400 medley (fourth place). 

UP NEXT: The Hokies will travel to Charlottesville, Virginia on Jan. 16 to face UVA in the 2021 Commonwealth Clash.
