GREENSBORO, N.C. – On Friday Nov. 13, several Hokies traveled to Greensboro, North Carolina for the 2020 Toyota US Open.
This year the competition was held seamlessly with athletes competing across nine cities throughout the weekend. The Hokies came out strong with 12 top 15 overall placings.
TECH WOMEN
The freshman duo of Caroline Bentz and Chase Travis put on another great performance for the women's squad. Bentz finished seventh overall in the 100 back (third in Greensboro). In the 200 back she clocked in a time of 2:04.41, getting 13th place overall (7th in Greensboro). Travis finished 11th overall (third in Greensboro) in the 800 free with a time of 8:46.76. She also snagged 13th (third in Greensboro) in the 1500 free with a time of 16:58.43.
Sophomore Sarah Shackelford placed seventh overall (third in Greensboro) in the 100 free clocking in a time of 8:46.76. This time also qualified Shackelford for the 2020 Olympic Trials. Senior Reka Gyorgy placed sixth (first in Greensboro) in the 400 IM with a time of 4:46.14 and seventh in the 200 IM with a time of 2:14.95.
TECH MEN
Freshman Youssef Ramadan took sixth place (second in Greensboro) with a time of 52.99, followed by junior Blake Manoff in ninth (third in Greensboro) with a time of 53.20.
Junior Antani Ivanov dominated the 200 fly placing first in Greensboro and third overall with a time of 1:58.51. Sophomores Forest Webb and AJ Pouch earned ninth place in the 100 back (second in Greensboro) clocking in at 55.60 and eighth place (third in Greensboro) in the 200 breast with a time of 2:15.27.
UP NEXT: The Hokies will travel to Chapel Hill, North Carolina Dec. 3-5 for the UNC Invitational.
