In the contest, No. 37 Tech defeated defending national champions No. 43 Virginia in a 4-3 thriller. The day was full of gritty performances by the Hokies, who pulled off three separate wins over ranked opponents. Court 3 was the decider for the match, as Alex Ribeiro and Aswin Lizen battled into three sets with the overall score tied 3-3. In one of the most exciting finishes in Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center history, the Hokies reigned victorious following a third set tiebreak win from Ribeiro, propelling Tech to its first win over the Hoos since 2003.

Virginia Tech installed the PlaySight Smart Courts system in the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in 2015 and since then, coaches and players have used the technology to analyze film, while fans have used it to stream the matches live.
