WR Cam Phillips named XFL’s top player for a third time

STAMFORD, CONN – The XFL announced on Tuesday evening that Houston Roughnecks WR Cam Phillips has been voted the XFL's "Star of the Week" for the third time in the league's first five weeks. Phillips hauled in a season-high 10 passes for 122 yards with two TDs as the Houston Roughnecks pushed their record to 5-0 with a 32-23 win vs. Seattle. Phillips caught scoring passes of five and 11 yards in the fourth quarter to seal the win. 
 
Virginia Tech's all-time leading receiver currently leads the XFL with 31 receptions for 455 yards and nine touchdowns. Houston travels to New York on Sunday to face the Guardians at 2 p.m. ET on ABC. 
 


 
Phillips earned his first "Star of the Week" after catching eight passes for 63 yards with three TD catches as Houston recorded a 28-24 victory over the St. Louis Battlehawks on Feb. 16. He followed that up with another "Star of the Week" win following an eight-catch, 194-yard effort that also featured three TD catches at Tampa Bay on Feb. 22. 
 


 
Phillips previously spent time on the practice squad and the 53-man roster of the Buffalo Bills. He concluded his career at Tech as the school's all-time leading receiver with 236 catches for 3027 yards, while adding 17 TD catches.
