JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Entering with a 3-1 record at the JU/UNF Spring Break Challenge, Virginia Tech softball beat Stony Brook 6-1 Sunday morning for their third straight win.

The Hokies (16-4) got a productive game at the plate from Mackenzie Lawter, who went 2 for 4 with two extra-base hits. Keely Rochard (11-3) started her third straight game and allowed just one run on one hit in the win over the Seawolves (7-2).

"It was good to go 4-1," Lawter said. "It's big for us going into ACC play next weekend so we're really excited to keep going forward."

Meredith Slaw led the game with three hits, including an RBI single in the third inning. Appearing as a pinch-hitter, Maddie Rountree picked up her third RBI of the season with a double to right center. Darby Trull, who leads the team with a .389 batting average, went 2 for 3 with an RBI in the win.

THE GAME

The Hokies got on the board first Sunday when a fielding error allowed Rebecca Ludowig to score from third in the second inning. Tech added to its 1-0 lead in the third with an RBI single up the middle from Slaw followed by a two-run homer over the left-field wall from Lawter.

Rountree's double and Trull's single tacked on two more for the Hokies in the sixth to take a 6-0 lead. Rochard pitched another lights-out game Sunday, coming one out away from back-to-back no-hitters.
