BLACKSBURG – After a weekend that saw only the Hokies' pole vault group see action, all five disciplines of the Virginia Tech track and field teams will compete over the weekend as Tech hosts the "Doc Hale" Elite Meet. Select distance runners will travel to Winston Salem, North Carolina for the Camel City Invitational.
The Elite Meet marks the third of four home events for the Hokies this season. The two-day meet will begin at 5 p.m. ET on Friday and will commence again Saturday, with field events beginning at 11 a.m. Admission will be free for all fans and parking is available in the lots surrounding Rector Field House.
Select distance runners will compete at the Camel City Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The two-day event will start for the Hokies on Friday at 1 p.m., with the 5,000 and will begin again at 2:05 p.m. on Saturday with the 3,000.
At the Camel City invitational, admission is $7 for adults and $4 for students 13 years and up on Friday. On Saturday, admission costs $10 for adults and $5 for students 13 years and up. Admissions is free both days for all children under 12.

Rachel Baxter cleared 4.53 meters (14 feet, 10.25 inches) on her second attempt to easily beat Nevada's Gabrielle Palmer for the New Mexico Team Open pole vault tittle. Her leap was a personal best and broke her own school record of 4.47 meters (14 feet, 8 inches), which she set last year at the ACC Championships held at Rector Field House last February.
On the men's side, Harrison Rice was third with a top vault of 5.25 meters (17 feet, 2.75 inches), while the Hokies' Jacob Rice came in fifth with a top vault of 5.05 meters (16 feet, 6.75 inches). Both Harrison and Jacob Rice set personal bests in the competition.

Due to her impressive showing last weekend, Baxter was named ACC Women's Co-Field Performer of the Week
Hokies in the Rankings
Nationally, the Hokies have six student-athletes who have times and marks that rank in the top-25. Sara Freix ranks 24th in the mile, while Caitlan Tate is 10th in the 400-meter dash, and Rachel Baxter is second in the nation in the pole vault.
On the men's side, Cole Beck ranks 11th in the 60-meter dash, Chauncey Chambers is 19th in the nation in the triple jump and Tyson Jones is 24th in the shot put
