Hokies win two on Sunday

BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech women's tennis team grabbed its second win on the day, defeating ETSU, 6-1 to open the dual slate at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

Elizabet Danailova and Nina Sorkin teamed up for their second doubles win of the day, defeating ETSU's Raquel Amaro/Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga combo, 6-3. Erika Cheng and Nika Kozar clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory against Yunuen Elizarraras/Michelle de Haan team.

Kozar kept the momentum from her first match going in a match against Alejandra Morales, winning 7-5, 7-5. Sorkin followed suit, cruising past Amaro 7-5, 6-3. On court one, Natalie Novotna clinched the Hokies win with a 6-1, 7-6(3) result over Laylo Bakodirova. 

Shene Disbergen was able to grit out a three-set win on court five against  de Haan, 7-6(4), 3-6, 6-4. Cheng wrapped up the day for the Hokies, earning her second victory at Tech, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. 

Virginia Tech will be in action on Sunday, Feb. 2, for a doubleheader against Winthrop and JMU at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech women's tennis team defeated Appalachian State 6-1 on Sunday at the Burrows- Burleson Tennis Center. 

Tech (1-0) opened the day claiming the doubles point with results on courts three and one. Elizabet Danailova and Nina Sorkin picked up win 6-0 on court three while Shene Disbergen and Natalie Novotna claimed a 6-1 win on court three to clinch the doubles point. 

At the three Danailova picked up a dominant win over Appalachian State's Kate Earnhardt 6-0, 6-0. On court two, Kozar picked up a 6-1, 7(8)-6 win over Teodora Sevo. 

Erica Cheng secured the team win for the Hokies at six, knocking off Sandra Anglesjö 6-2, 7-5. 

Nina Sorkin stretched the Hokies lead to 5-0 lead defeating Cassie McLay in three sets 3-6, 6-0, 6-4. Tech wrapped up the match with Shene Disbergen winning in three sets against Maria Zacarias 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. 

The Hokies return to the court to play ETSU at 3 p.m.
