Hokies return to action, host Virginia Saturday

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to competition on Saturday, hosting in-state rival Virginia in a 1 p.m. dual meet at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.

IN THE RANKINGS
The Tech men enter the weekend ranked 24th in the most recent CSCAA TYR Top-25 poll (Dec. 11). Virginia's men are 15th while the Cavaliers' women come in to the weekend at No. 3.
 





HOKIE MEN

  • Virginia Tech is coming off of winter training camp following a strong fall slate.
  • The Hokies enter the weekend undefeated in dual competition at 4-0, including wins over Big Ten foes Ohio State and Penn State.
  • Prior to the break, several Hokies competed at the U.S. Open Championships and the European Short Course meet.    
    • Antani Ivanov set a Bulgarian national record in the 100 butterfly at the European Short Course with a time of 51.41.
    • At the U.S. Open, Forest Webb made his first U.S. Olympic Trial cut, hitting the mark in the 100 backstroke.
  • In addition to Webb, several Hokies have already made trial cuts including:
    • Thomas Hallock – 50 Free
    • Cobi Lopez Miro – 100 & 200 breaststroke
    • Blake Manoff – 200 butterfly
    • Keith Myburgh – 200 breaststroke / 400 IM
    • AJ Pouch – 100 & 200 breaststroke
    • Lane Stone – 200 & 400 freestyle
    • Ryan Vipavetz – 400 freestyle / 200 butterfly
    • Noah Zawadzki – Diving

 
HOKIES WOMEN

  • The Hokies recently completed winter training camp and are looking to get back to competition.
  • Prior to the break, the Hokies competed at the U.S. Open Championships.
  • Four Hokies have qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials so far, including:
    • Joelle Vereb – 50 freestyle / 100 breaststroke
    • Margarita Ryan – 100 backstroke
    • Jenna Thompson – 100 breaststroke
    • Ashley Worden – 200 butterfly

 
UP NEXT: The Hokies will remain at home to host defending ACC Champion NC State on Feb. 1 at 11 a.m. Tech will recognize its seniors prior to the meet.
